DAILY FAMILY KITCHEN REMODEL
Brief:
Design, construct and install a new kitchen, maintaining the vintage context of the home's original 1920's construction and Arts & Crafts detail, while modernizing the installation to meet contemporary standards.

Kellie Daily contacted Inside Job to measure her existing kitchen for new IKEA cabinets. With a new baby on the way, time was of the essence. When Kellie and her husband Chris realized that Inside Job can provide services far beyond a simple cabinet installation, they asked us to manage all aspects of her kitchen and laundry remodel, from initial design to final completion. We also assisted the couple in new creative lighting installation throughout the house.

One particular decision was whether or not to demolish the original built-in sideboard with multi-light glass doors on the upper cabinets. Kellie couldn't stand that the cabinet looked so gloomy, glass doors notwithstanding. She also hated the old-fashioned box drawers - you know, the kind that end up tipping out and dumping their contents onto the floor when pulled just one tiny bit too far out... !

Inside Job firmly believed that the built-in cabinets were an essential element to retain in the finished kitchen, and used them as the key to the overall design. Our finish carpenter rebuilt the cabinets, replacing the fixed wooden shelves with glass, adding low-voltage halogen lighting inside and beneath the upper cabinets, and customizing the old drawers with proper modern glides and new fronts.

Some earlier remodeling added area to the kitchen floor plan, but created differences in floor levels and ceiling planes. Old, painted-shut windows made fresh air a challenge. Poor overhead lighting created an overall gloomy feeling.

Solution: From floor to ceiling, Inside Job completely remodeled every surface and utility of this now beautiful, functional, bright and inviting kitchen.

Scope of work:
Initial measurements • floor plan • cabinetry layout • lighting/electric plans

Trades involved:
Carpentry • Electrical • Lighting • Plumbing • HVAC • Drywall • Flooring • Tile • Paint • Cabinetry • Granite countertops • Appliances
